In the spring of 2008, CAAT founder and executive director Mulusew Yayehyirad traveled to Ethiopia, where she met with the CAAT committee there that will be working in cooperation with the Wisconsin-based CAAT Board of Directors.

The committee is made up of trusted and well-respected elders and experienced professionals who live in the area and will oversee the project’s execution closely.

During this visit, Mulu visited the Bichena Health Center, the site of CAAT’s first project. She took the following eight photos, which demonstrate the current conditions at the clinic. Among other concerns, the photos capture:

  • The crowds that must wait outdoors for prolonged periods of time, regardless of the weather
  • The beds on which the ill are often carried by groups on foot – sometimes for many hours – due to a lack of transportation
  • The lack of sanitation, organization and basic supplies
Additional photographs of the clinic are on Our Mission page. CAAT’s first project is the construction of a waiting room for this clinic
